In this worldbuilding scenario, it is very dangerous to make gene edits to the 21st Century from the 23rd Century as there is an evacuation from Earth in the 22nd Century (and subsequent space colonization effort in that century) which makes the gene edits crossing the evacuation chasm extremely dangerous, as they could lead to attacks on the 23rd Century. These gene edits also create circumstances that lead to tip offs of people in the 21st Century, which makes things awkward.
In this worldbuilding scenario, it would be necessary to move forwards spaceworthy technology, time travel technology and space colonization technology as well.
