In this worldbuilding scenario, there are several Earth colonies in space in the 23rd Century and later that are basically called second houses in the near future, which are basically replacements of the big countries on Earth. The next level of expansion are called third houses. One second house legalizes gene edits to their ancestors going as far back as the early 21st Century using time travel. Unfortunately, these gene edits kill childbirth and forces many alternative solutions to try to keep families together such as babies that are started outside of IVF or natural means. There is a huge court case drama in the 23rd Century that envelops a huge number of families and kills future fertility clinics. That second house eventually dies because of it as their third house and the other second houses as well as the deep future oppose them. People in the early 21st Century hear about this and start formulating the cause of purism which is the cause of protecting genomes from any kind of gene edits and start trying to sell this cause to the future. Champions are sought for this cause.
